CREATION

Creation is feeling His presence, hearing His voice, or being moved to worship by His creation.

What Does It Mean to Connect With God Through Creation?

When you connect with God through creation you are joining in with all of nature in glorifying Him.

In every gust of wind, flower in bloom, sunrise, sunset and bird building a nest, you have eyes to see the goodness of what God exhaled.

There is an invitation to encounter God outside. He is saying, “Come away with Me” (Song of Solomon 2:10).

Become aware of the beckoning from God to pause and respond to invitations of what He is wanting to show you outside. He is inviting you into an encounter with the Creator of all things.

As you encounter God through creation be intentional about asking Him to show you Himself and teach you His ways through the creation that is around you.

"Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy."

Psalms 96: 11-12

How to Connect With God Through Creation:

  • SPEND TIME OUTDOORS.‍‍Spending time outdoors isn't always as accessible as your couch is; intentionally plan time for you to go into creation to encounter God. Practically that may look like putting it on your calendar, or planning a visit to a local park or lake.

  • CREATE A GO-TO SPOT OUTSIDE TO ENCOUNTER GOD.‍ Whether its a rocking chair on your patio, a garden, or a trail, create a space you can easily go to for your encounter time. If weather doesn't permit, create a space that is by a window where you can see outside.

GO OUTDOORS TO READ YOUR BIBLE.

  • TAKE WALKS.‍ ‍Like Adam and Eve walked with God in the garden, go for a walk and talk with Him. As you walk, pray in the Spirit and invite His Presence into your environment.

  • INVITE GOD INTO YOUR ACTIVITIES.Invite God into all of your outdoor activities. Anytime you are doing a hobby outside like fishing or gardening, intentionally invite Him into that. A practical way to do that is to just ask Him what is on His mind as you do your hobby.

  • REFLECT ON THE MAJESTY.‍Spend time outside looking at all of the incredible things God created, whether it's trees, mountains, plants, or animals during the day, or the stars at night. Cultivate awe towards God in your heart as an act of worship. ”The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” - Psalm 19:1

Encouragement

Connect with God through creation, but don’t let your connection with God be only about an external atmosphere. Instead, posture your heart to encounter God daily.

When you prepare your heart and mind to encounter the Holy Spirit and hear His voice, you will be able to encounter Him whether you are in nature or not! Be intentional to find the beauty in what is in front of you.

Suggested Activities

  • Open up your curtains to see outside during your daily encounters.

  • Have a go-to outdoor spot where you can regularly meet with the Lord alone.

  • Try reading your Bible and journaling outside - being in God’s creation may help you get more out of your time with God.

  • When you feel stressed or overwhelmed, go for a walk outside with the Lord. Speak to Him about what is on your mind and listen for His thoughts.

  • As you read your Bible, notice the physical landscape and settings of the story you are reading. Ask God what specific insight and connections He wants to reveal.

  • Be present to see the beauty of God’s creation in people and in nature.

  • Go on a nature retreat or weekend getaway to connect with God.

  • Explore new locations, trails, lakes, etc.
